The earlier 2027 window is therefore intended to move more of the tournament away from the hottest part of the Indian summer.

Why Could IPL 2027 Start Earlier?

The primary reason given by the BCCI is weather.

According to Saikia, the board has received complaints from players and fans regarding extreme heat, particularly in the northern and western parts of India during the latter stages of the IPL.

The BCCI is also seeking to reduce the risk of adverse weather affecting the playoffs and final. An earlier finish in mid-May would provide more distance from the period when heat and pre-monsoon conditions become increasingly significant in many parts of India.

The change would also allow the tournament to complete its key matches before the weather becomes a bigger factor in the knockout stages.

Will IPL 2027 Definitely Start on March 10?

Not necessarily.

March 10 is currently the BCCI's stated target for the beginning of IPL 2027, but the board has not yet published the complete official schedule.

That distinction is particularly important because the IPL calendar has to be coordinated with India's international schedule, domestic cricket and the availability of overseas players.

The current international calendar shows Australia's five-Test tour of India running through March 3, 2027, with the final Test scheduled to finish on that date if it goes the full five days.

For now, March 10 should be viewed as the leading BCCI target rather than a locked-in start date.

When Will the IPL 2027 Full Schedule Be Announced?

There is currently no confirmed date for the release of the complete IPL 2027 schedule.

In recent seasons, the BCCI has generally confirmed the schedule relatively close to the start of the competition rather than many months in advance.
