About the Women's T20 World Cup

The Women’s T20 World Cup is an international championship for women’s cricket played in the Twenty20 format and organised by the ICC. The inaugural edition took place in England in 2009. Initially, the tournament featured eight teams for its first three editions, before expanding to ten teams in 2014. The event is set to include twelve teams from the 2026 edition onwards.

Each tournament includes a mix of automatically qualified teams and those who earn their place through the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. As of 2024, nine editions have been contested with a total of twelve teams participating across all tournaments. Australia has been the dominant force in the competition, claiming six titles (2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020, and 2023). England (2009), West Indies (2016), and New Zealand (2024) have each lifted the trophy once.

New Zealand are the reigning champions, having secured their first title in the 2024 edition after defeating South Africa in the final.
